What Christmas Means To Me, live in the studio with the Eclipse Christmas Show Band.
The Eclipse Christmas Show Band is here, and we are so excited that this incubated idea has developed and grown into something we can finally share with you. Putting together a nine-piece band of musicians was no easy feat but once we got there we went into the studio and just recorded some Christmas songs we love. The concept was that – for a sound that large – our performance needs to feel like this wonderful cocktail of soul and love and passion and festivity. Christmas carols that everyone knows are wonderful but to perform everything with this joyous energy that makes you want to shout and dance with us is the key.
The more we researched what was out there in the way of Christmas carols, the more we found some incredible underrated songs. We found Christmas albums by current pop stars, 1960’s jazz musicians, neo-soul artists, Motown artists, English rock bands. There is so much out there to get inspiration from. And, as much as we adore *that* Michael Bublé Christmas album that somehow finds its way into every household by December, we knew we wanted to pull songs and ideas from all of it.
Enter this Stevie Wonder song, What Christmas Means To Me. We used his original studio recording as a reference. We saw how John Legend also covered it on his Christmas album. Then we made it our own. You’ll see in this video below our three singer exchanging lines. Mia on lead, while Mattie and our other Mia (there are two Mias) are supporting her with backing vocals. Some songs are really fun when each singer has a share of lead vocal lines (like this one we did here). Other songs benefit from one voice driving the story and, as a result, having the backing vocals support it. This was a song where we envisioned one leading voice driving it.
Our sound engineer, Lee, multi tracked all three ladies so you’ll see how he had each of them track separately in the vocal booth before layering everything together in post-production. The band, on the other hand, was playing all live together in the same room. So, in one area there was a room full of rhythm and horn instruments (six musicians altogether). In another room there was vocal booth of singers taking turns layering in their parts.

We are a collective of musicians based in Perth, Australia, that perform the most well-adored songs of the decades for weddings, corporate events and special celebrations. We believe that live music is so important in establishing the tone of an event and, if done right, sets an atmosphere that allows guests to let their guard down, enjoy, and step into another world where they can feel comfortable enough to experience all that a good event has to offer.
Our musicians are not just experienced performers but also trained formally in jazz and contemporary music, and we understand the importance of how visuals reinforce a event’s tone, which give us the versatility to perform at cocktail events, black-tie events, wedding ceremonies and receptions, conferences, and brand or product launches.
