Unchained Melody, live in the studio.

We recorded this performance candidly in the band recording room at Sumo Sound Studios. For such a powerful piece of music, we chose to strip it down to one powerful voice accompanied only by a guitar. A simple setting for a simple song. Delivered with enough passion that it gave every one of us in the control room goosebumps.

Tristan, our sound engineer, was happy for Colin to play guitar relaxed on the couch while Mattie sang. We originally had another song picked out to record but, based on Mattie’s suggestion, Unchained Melody was our final decision. It is a timeless song.

Unchained Melody has stood strong over decades. It became a standard in 1955 and grew in popularity ten years later in 1965 with The Righteous Brothers’ recording of it. This is the version that we drew the most inspiration from as we arranged it into the Acoustic Duo formation. No frills. No large band. No black-tie attire. Completely stripped down to the song’s essence.

Maybe it would be immediately written off as ‘too obvious’ but, when delivered with the same intensity that the song calls for, Unchained Melody is a wonderful wedding song. It is one of our favourites. The processional walk down the aisle. The signing of the registry. Even for the First Dance. It carries with it a quiet intensity and a level of romance that completely transforms setting.

About Eclipse

We are a collective of musicians based in Perth, Australia, that perform the most well-adored songs of the decades for weddings, corporate events and special celebrations. We believe that live music is so important in establishing the tone of an event and, if done right, sets an atmosphere that allows guests to let their guard down, enjoy, and step into another world where they can feel comfortable enough to experience all that a good event has to offer.

Our musicians are not just experienced performers but also trained formally in jazz and contemporary music, and we understand the importance of how visuals reinforce a event’s tone, which give us the versatility to perform at cocktail events, black-tie events, wedding ceremonies and receptions, conferences, and brand or product launches.
